is a modern Aikido Club located in the center of Malmi, a district north from Helsinki central. We provide classes five days a week and our instructors are experienced and certified trainers.
Aikido is a modern japanese martial art. The name itself means “the way of harmonious spirit”. The underlying principle of Aikido is to be able to direct the attackers power to direction where it doesnt hurt anyone. Aikido is trained mainly through kata, predetermined series of movement, in pairs. A good body control is also important part of Aikido and is trained alongside with kata. Aikido has no sport-like competition as it emphasizes on self-improvement.
In AikiCircle we have a few different options for adults, and a junior course.
A course meant to teach you the basics of Aikido in a traditional way. Here you will learn how to take ukemi (way of falling safely, forward and backward roll) and how to execute the basic techniques of Aikido. Classes are at 18:00 - 19:00 every Monday and Wednesday.
A course that emphasizes the flowing, soft and harmonious side of Aikido. Here you will learn to take ukemi and to execute the basic techniques of Aikido in a more gentle manner. Classes are at 10:30 on Saturdays.
A course for children under the age of 14. In Aikido Junior classes children learn Aikido in a playful way. We have a strong emphasis on basic physical and motoric skills as well as social skills. For children we have two separate classes for different age groups: 6-8y and 9-13y. The older kids' class is at 16:00 - 17:00 and the younger ones at 17:00 - 18:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays.
In addition to these special themed courses we have classes for adults on Mondays and Wednesdays at 19:00 and Tuesdays and Fridays at 18:00. Everyone is welcome, from 6. kyu upward!
If you want to attend or just come and have a look at what Aikido looks like, check out our training schedule for the most up to date info!
In addition to Aikido, at AikiCircle you can also practise MBC (Martial Blade Concepts), a modern American combative system that focuses on the use of edge weapons. You can read more about MCB here and you're welcome to join us on Mondays and Thursdays at 19:00! Since we use practise knives during the training, the minimum age for attending MBC is 18.
